Piñapinas
12" x 16" | Giclée Print | Limited Edition of 30

Piñapinas is an illustration that reimagines the Philippines as an embroidered piña cloth — a tribute to the delicate, handwoven textile made from pineapple fibers, once worn by the Filipino elite as a symbol of identity and pride.

At its center is the pineapple, reinterpreted with a pearl cradled in a shell in place of its leafy crown — a nod to the Philippines as the Pearl of the Orient Seas. Encircling it is a constellation of pearl-like orbs, representing the nation’s 7,000+ islands, each a radiant bead in the fabric of the archipelago.

A Spanish colonial galleon and maritime markings thread through the composition, evoking a layered history of influence and exchange.

With Piñapinas, the land becomes a fabric of identity, illustrated with stories of craft, colonization, and cultural continuity.
